If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [Because people were waiting to hear what I would say, they listened to me]

They is an indefinite pronoun that does not have a specific referent in the immediate context. (As the introduction to this chapter discusses, Job continues to use the pronoun “they” with this same indefinite sense through to the end of the chapter.) If it would be helpful in your language, here and in the following verses you could translate the term with an equivalent expression that does not use an indefinite pronoun. Alternate translation: [People listened]
