OET (OET-LV)Therefore it_let_be known, to_you_all, men, brothers, that through this one, forgiveness of_sins is_being_proclaimed to_you_all, and from all things of_which you_all_were_ not _able to_be_justified in the_law of_Mōsaʸs/(Mosheh),

OET (OET-RV)So brothers, let it be known to you all that your sins can now be forgiven through this Yeshua—the law of Mosheh was never able to offer you that.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / imperative3p

γνωστὸν & ἔστω ὑμῖν

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: γνωστόν Οὖν ἔστω ὑμῖν ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί ὅτι διά τούτου ὑμῖν ἄφεσις ἁμαρτιῶν καταγγέλλεται καί ἀπό πάντων ὧν οὐκ ἠδυνήθητε ἐν νόμῳ Μωϋσέως δικαιωθῆναι)

If your language does not use the third-person imperative in this way, you could state this in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [may it be known to you] or [you should know]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

ἄνδρες, ἀδελφοί

men brothers

This is an idiomatic form of address. Use a way that is natural in your language to refer to a particular group of people. Alternate translation: [my brothers]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

ἀδελφοί

brothers

Paul is using the term brothers to mean people who share the same faith. He is addressing the people in the synagogue who are his fellow-Jews and followers of Judaism. They are not Christian believers at this point. He may also be using the word brothers as a term of friendship for the Gentiles who are present. Alternate translation, as in UST: [my fellow Israelites and other friends]

Note 4 topic: writing-pronouns

τούτου

this_‹one›

The demonstrative pronoun this one refers to Jesus. Alternate translation: [Jesus]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

ὑμῖν ἄφεσις ἁμαρτιῶν καταγγέλλεται, καὶ

˱to˲_you_all ˱to˲_you_all forgiveness ˱of˲_sins ˓is_being˒_proclaimed (Some words not found in SR-GNT: γνωστόν Οὖν ἔστω ὑμῖν ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί ὅτι διά τούτου ὑμῖν ἄφεσις ἁμαρτιῶν καταγγέλλεται καί ἀπό πάντων ὧν οὐκ ἠδυνήθητε ἐν νόμῳ Μωϋσέως δικαιωθῆναι)

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [we are proclaiming forgiveness of sins to you]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

ὑμῖν ἄφεσις ἁμαρτιῶν καταγγέλλεται, καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων

Paul is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context. Alternate translation: [release of sins is proclaimed to you, and release is also proclaimed to you from the guilt of everything]

Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

πάντων ὧν οὐκ ἠδυνήθητε ἐν νόμῳ Μωϋσέως δικαιωθῆναι

all_‹things› ˱of˲_which not ˱you_all˲_˓were˒_able in ˓the˒_law ˱of˲_Moses ˓to_be˒_justified

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [everything that you were not able to do in obedience to the law of Moses]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

13:16-41 Paul accepted the invitation, motioned to quiet his audience (cp. 19:33; 21:40), and launched into a straightforward proclamation of the Good News. This is Paul’s first great speech in Acts, and it provides a model of his preaching to a Jewish audience (see 22:1-21).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
