In this section Paul reminded the Corinthian believers about the gospel and showed them that the resurrection from the dead was an important part of the gospel. First (15:1–11) he wrote about the evidence showing that God raised Christ from the dead. Then (15:12–34) he taught that God will raise believers from the dead. Finally (15:35–58) he taught about what the resurrection body will be like.

In this paragraph Paul reminded the Corinthians of four important events that form the gospel message:
Christ died for our sins.
They buried his body.
He came back to life on the third day.
Many people saw him after he came back to life.

People placed him in a tomb.
that: The word that introduces the second of the four events that form the gospel message.
He was buried: The clause He was buried is passive. There are two ways to translate it:
Use a passive verb. For example:
He was placed in a tomb. (GW)
Use an active verb. For example:
people/they buried him
buried: People buried Jesus by placing his body in a tomb that was cut into a hillside. They did not place his body under the ground. The words that you use should allow for this understanding.
that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
Then he was raised from the dead on the third day, as the Scriptures say/foretell.
The third day after that, God raised him to life. Again, this is what the Scriptures said will happen.
that: The word that introduces the third of the four events that form the gospel message.
He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures: Jesus was raised. God made him to be alive again. In some languages it may be natural to say explicitly:
that he was raised from the dead
that he was raised to life
This is a passive clause. There are two ways to translate it:
Use a passive verb. For example:
he was raised to life on the third day (REB)
Use an active verb, supplying the subject “God.” For example:
God raised him on the third day

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Paul uses the passive to avoid saying who buried him, so if you must state who did the action, you can use a generic or nonspecific subject. Alternate translation: [they buried him] or [someone buried him]

Paul uses the passive here to focus on Jesus, who was raised, rather than focusing on the one doing the “raising.” If you must state who did the action, Paul implies that “God” did it. Here, raised refers to someone who had died then coming back to life. If your language does not use raised to describe coming back to life, you can use a comparable idiom or express the idea plainly. Alternate translation: [he was restored to life]

If your language does not use ordinal numbers, you can use a cardinal number here. Alternate translation: [on day three]

In Paul’s culture, the current day was counted as the “first day.” So, the third day would refer to two days after he was buried. If Jesus was buried on a Friday, he was raised on a Sunday. Consider how your language counts days and use a phrase that represents the timing properly. Alternate translation: [two days later]

In Paul’s culture, according to was a normal way to introduce a reference to an important text. In this case, Paul does not state exactly which part of the Scriptures he has in mind but rather refers to the Scriptures as a whole. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express how Paul introduces the quotation with a comparable phrase that indicates that Paul is referring to an important text. Alternate translation: [as can be read in the Scriptures]
