The waves of the ocean and of flooding rivers make a loud sound, and the enemies will make a very loud sound as they come.
51:55-56 The destruction of Babylon was not a historical accident—the Lord was in control and would bring it to pass.
• The noise (51:54) would dissolve into the silence of death. The invading army would kill or capture the Babylonian soldiers, and the population would flee into the countryside.
