Jesus says which work one must do in order to receive “the food that endures to eternal life” that was mentioned in verse [27](../06/27.md). This work is not any kind of labor or deed that can be done, but it is faith in Jesus, which is a gift from God ([Ephesians 2:8–9](../eph/02/08.md)). If this might confuse your readers, you could express the meaning explicitly. Alternate translation: [This is the work of God that is required to receive the food that endures to eternal life: that you believe in the one whom that one has sent]
