OET (OET-LV) The_entrance_of the_rib/plank (the)_middle was_to the_side_of the_house (the)_right and_by_stairs people_went_up to the_middle_chamber and_from the_middle_chamber to the_thirty.
OET (OET-RV) The entrance to the bottom level of siderooms was on the south side of the temple, then from there, stairs went up to the middle level, and more stairs to the top level.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun
הַצֵּלָע֙ הַתִּ֣יכֹנָ֔ה
(Some words not found in UHB: entrance_of the=rib/plank (the),middle to/towards side_of of,the_house (the),right and,by,stairs went_up on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the_middle,[chamber] and=from the_middle,[chamber] to/towards the,thirty )
The author is not referring to a specific middle chamber. He means the rooms on the middle level in general. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use an expression that would be more natural in your language. Alternate translation: [the middle chambers] or [the second floor]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
אֶל־כֶּ֥תֶף הַבַּ֖יִת הַיְמָנִ֑ית
to/towards to/towards (Some words not found in UHB: entrance_of the=rib/plank (the),middle to/towards side_of of,the_house (the),right and,by,stairs went_up on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the_middle,[chamber] and=from the_middle,[chamber] to/towards the,thirty )
The author is using the term shoulder to mean the side of the house or temple. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [was on the side of the temple at the right, near the front]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
אֶל־כֶּ֥תֶף הַבַּ֖יִת הַיְמָנִ֑ית
to/towards to/towards (Some words not found in UHB: entrance_of the=rib/plank (the),middle to/towards side_of of,the_house (the),right and,by,stairs went_up on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the_middle,[chamber] and=from the_middle,[chamber] to/towards the,thirty )
The author is speaking of directions in the way characteristic of his culture. He does not mean that if someone were standing in front of the temple, facing the porch, that this entrance would be on that person’s right. Instead, people of this culture spoke of directions as if a person were facing east, toward the sunrise. The south would be to the right of such a person. So the author means that this entrance was on the south side of the temple. (It was actually on the left of a person who was standing in front of the temple, facing the porch.) Alternate translation: [was on the south side of the temple, near the front]
Note 4 topic: writing-pronouns
וּבְלוּלִּ֗ים יַֽעֲלוּ֙
(Some words not found in UHB: entrance_of the=rib/plank (the),middle to/towards side_of of,the_house (the),right and,by,stairs went_up on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the_middle,[chamber] and=from the_middle,[chamber] to/towards the,thirty )
Here the author is using the pronoun they in a general sense, not to refer to specific individuals. Use an expression for this that would be natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and people went up] or [and the priests went up]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
עַל־הַתִּ֣יכֹנָ֔ה וּמִן־הַתִּֽיכֹנָ֖ה אֶל־הַשְּׁלִשִֽׁים
on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in (Some words not found in UHB: entrance_of the=rib/plank (the),middle to/towards side_of of,the_house (the),right and,by,stairs went_up on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the_middle,[chamber] and=from the_middle,[chamber] to/towards the,thirty )
The author is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [onto the middle floor, and they also went up by stairs from the middle floor to the third floor]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
