In this section Jesus warned his disciples about the scribes. He told them that the scribes were proud. They wanted people to notice them and to admire and praise them. They were also greedy and took the possessions of poor widows. Jesus warned his disciples not to follow the bad example of these scribes or act the way they acted.
It is good to translate this section before you decide on a heading for it. Some other examples of headings for this section are:
Jesus denounces the scribes
Beware of the Scribes (ESV)
There are parallel passages for this section in Matthew 23:1–8 and Mark 12:38–40.
In the hearing of all the people, Jesus said to His disciples,
¶ Then Jesus spoke to his disciples while everyone else was listening,
¶ In everyone’s hearing Jesus said to his followers,
In the hearing of all the people, Jesus said to His disciples: This verse introduces what Jesus said to his disciples about the scribes. The phrase that the BSB translates as In the hearing of all the people indicates that many other people were there and heard what Jesus said to his disciples. Some other ways to translate this verse are:
As all the people listened to him, Jesus said to his disciples (GNT)
In the hearing of all the people he said to the disciples (NRSV)
Then, with the crowds listening, he turned to his disciples and said (NLT)
His disciples: Here the phrase His disciples refers to the larger group that followed Jesus, not only to the twelve disciples. For help in translating “disciple,” see the note at 17:1a and disciple in the Glossary.

δὲ
(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἀκούοντος Δέ παντός τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ)
Luke uses the word And to indicate that after asking his own difficult question to the people who had been trying to trap him, Jesus turned to speak to his disciples. Alternate translation: [Then]

παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ
(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἀκούοντος Δέ παντός τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ)
Luke is generalizing to refer to everyone who was present as Jesus was teaching. Alternate translation: [all the people who were there]
20:1-47 In this series of controversies between Jesus and the religious leaders of Jerusalem, they repeatedly questioned and challenged him, and he repeatedly outmatched them with his spiritual wisdom, insight, and authority.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
