uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-newevent

ἐγένετο δὲ

˱it˲_became (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἐγένετο Δέ μετά τούς λόγους τούτους ὡσεί ἡμέραι ὀκτώ παραλαβών Πέτρον καί Ἰωάννην καί Ἰάκωβον ἀνέβη εἰς τό ὄρος προσεύξασθαι)

Luke uses this phrase to introduce a new event in the story. Use a word, phrase, or other method in your language that is natural for introducing a new event.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

μετὰ τοὺς λόγους τούτους

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἐγένετο Δέ μετά τούς λόγους τούτους ὡσεί ἡμέραι ὀκτώ παραλαβών Πέτρον καί Ἰωάννην καί Ἰάκωβον ἀνέβη εἰς τό ὄρος προσεύξασθαι)

The phrase these words refers to what Jesus said to his disciples in the preceding verses. Luke uses the term words to describe the things that Jesus said by using words. Alternate translation: [after Jesus said these things to his disciples]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

9:28 About eight days later: Mark says “after six days,” referring to full days, while Luke includes parts of days.
• Peter, John, and James were the inner circle of Jesus’ disciples (see also 8:51; Mark 14:32-33).
• a mountain: The site of the transfiguration is traditionally regarded as Mount Tabor in southern Galilee. Some have suggested Mount Hermon, which is closer to Caesarea Philippi, where Peter’s confession (Luke 9:18-27) took place.
