Section 15:22–33: Paul planned to visit Rome

In this section, Paul explained his plan to go to Spain and visit the believers in Rome on the way. He also explained that he was currently going to Jerusalem with a gift of money for the poor believers there from the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. Once he was finished with that, he planned to go to Spain.

Paul asked the believers in Rome to pray for him. Paul wanted to avoid being blocked in his ministry by Jews who did not believe in Jesus. He also asked them to pray that the gift he was taking to Jerusalem would be acceptable to the believers there. If it was, he would have joy and be able to enjoy his visit with the believers in Rome.

I know that when I come to you,

when I come to you: The Greek is more literally “coming to you.” Here it implies when rather than “if.”Morris (page 522).

15:29b

I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.

I will come with the full blessing of Christ.
and I will come because Jesus Christ has blessed that work.

in the fullness of the blessing of Christ: There is a textual issue in 15:29b: (1) Some Greek manuscripts have the word blessing (BSB, RSV, NIV, GNT, NJB, NASB, NABRE, ESV, REB, NLT, GW, NET, NCV). (2) Some Greek manuscripts have the words blessing of the gospel (KJV only). It is recommended that you follow option (1). Here the word fullness indicates that, like a basket that is full of good things, the blessing of Christ will be great, rather than small. Here are other ways to translate this phrase:

with a full measure of the blessing of Christ (GNT)

with the fullest blessing of Christ (NJB)
