OET (OET-RV) When the Philistines heard that David had been proclaimed as king over all Yisrael, their army set off to capture him, but David heard and retreated[fn] to the stronghold.
5:17 The Hebrew says ‘descended’, but doesn’t tell us either from where (probably Yerushalem) or to where (possibly Masada).

Here “all” is a generalization that means the Philistine army. Alternate translation: “the Philistine army went looking for him”
5:1-25 After the murder of Abner and Ishbosheth, the elders of the northern tribes accepted David as their king. David thus obtained an extended empire (5:1-5), a new capital city (5:6-10), a new palace (5:11), a new family (5:13-16), and renewed confidence (5:17-25).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
