Adonijah is using the expression as today as a common expression of his culture to mean “first.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [first]

Alternate translation: [I will not let go of the horns of the altar until King Solomon swears to me first] or [I will not leave the sanctuary unless King Solomon swears to me first]

Adonijah is not referring to a specific sword. He means any sword that David might command his soldiers to use to kill him. Adonijah is likely referring to beheading. [2 Samuel 16:9](../2sa/16/09.md) suggests that this would have been the punishment for rebellion against the king. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use an expression that would be more natural in your language.
