The words you and your and the implied “you” in the imperative Take are plural in this verse and the next two verses because David is addressing Zadok, Nathan, and Benaiah. So use plural forms in your translation if your language marks that distinction.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

אֶת־עַבְדֵ֣י אֲדֹנֵיכֶ֔ם

DOM servants_of your(pl)_lord(s)_of,your(pl)

By the servants of your master, David is referring to the Cherethites and Pelethites, his royal bodyguards, as [1:38](../01/38.md) and the similar use of this phrase in [2 Samuel 20:6](../2sa/20/06.md) indicate. You could indicate this in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [to the Cherethites and Pelethites] or [my royal bodyguards]

Note 3 topic: translate-symaction

קְח֤וּ עִמָּכֶם֙ אֶת־עַבְדֵ֣י אֲדֹנֵיכֶ֔ם

By sending his royal bodyguards with Solomon, David was ensuring Solomon’s safety. At the same time, this was a symbolic action that demonstrated that Solomon had royal authority. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the significance of this action in the text of your translation or in a footnote. Alternate translation: [Take my royal bodyguards with you to protect Solomon and to show that he is the new king]

Having Solomon ride on his own mule was a symbolic action by which David showed that Solomon was his chosen successor as king, since this mule was a symbol of royal authority. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the significance of this action in the text of your translation or in a footnote. Alternate translation: [have Solomon my son ride on my royal mule]

Gihon was a spring on the west side of Jerusalem. David may have chosen this location for the proclamation of Solomon as king because it was a public place where many people gathered. However, since Adonijah had proclaimed himself king at En Rogel on the east side of Jerusalem, David may also have chosen Gihon to symbolize his opposition to Adonijah and his full support for Solomon. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain the potential significance of this action. Alternate translation: [to Gihon, on the opposite side of Jerusalem from En Rogel]
