UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rpronouns

וְהָלַכְתִּ֧י אַף־אֲנִ֛י & וְהִכֵּיתִ֤י & גַּם־אָ֔נִי

(Some words not found in UHB: and,I_will_walk also/though I with,you(pl) in,contrariness and,I_will_strike ,you(pl) also/yet I seven on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in sins_of,your(pl) )

The intensive pronoun myself represents the pronoun “I” that God uses in the original even though the verbs translated as walk and strike already include this meaning. Doing this adds emphasis to what he is saying. If your language uses explicit pronouns for emphasis, you may want to use that construction in your translation. If not, your language may have other ways of bringing out this emphasis. Alternate translation: [then I will also walk … and I will also punish] or [then I myself will walk … and I will personally strike]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וְהָלַכְתִּ֧י אַף־אֲנִ֛י עִמָּכֶ֖ם בְּקֶ֑רִי

(Some words not found in UHB: and,I_will_walk also/though I with,you(pl) in,contrariness and,I_will_strike ,you(pl) also/yet I seven on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in sins_of,your(pl) )

Here, walk with you in hostility is a common expression that means “living in opposition.” Use a comparable expression in your language to convey ongoing opposition or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [I will continue to oppose you] or [I will persist in being hostile towards you]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

וְהָלַכְתִּ֧י אַף־אֲנִ֛י עִמָּכֶ֖ם בְּקֶ֑רִי

(Some words not found in UHB: and,I_will_walk also/though I with,you(pl) in,contrariness and,I_will_strike ,you(pl) also/yet I seven on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in sins_of,your(pl) )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of hostility, you could express the same idea in another way to convey the concept of opposition or enmity. Alternate translation: [then I, I also will walk hostilely with you]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וְהִכֵּיתִ֤י אֶתְכֶם֙ גַּם־אָ֔נִי שֶׁ֖בַע עַל־חַטֹּאתֵיכֶֽם

(Some words not found in UHB: and,I_will_walk also/though I with,you(pl) in,contrariness and,I_will_strike ,you(pl) also/yet I seven on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in sins_of,your(pl) )

The phrase strike you seven times is a common expression indicating either greatly increased punishment or complete punishment. Choose the interpretation that fits your context. Alternate translation: [and I will strike you completely for your sins] or [and I will punish you sevenfold for your sins]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

עַל־חַטֹּאתֵיכֶֽם

on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in (Some words not found in UHB: and,I_will_walk also/though I with,you(pl) in,contrariness and,I_will_strike ,you(pl) also/yet I seven on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in sins_of,your(pl) )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of sins, you could express this idea in another way that conveys wrongdoing. Alternate translation: [because you sinned]
