Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וָאֹמְרָ֣ה לַלְוִיִּ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִֽהְי֤וּ מִֽטַּהֲרִים֙
and,commanded, to_the,Levites which/who they_must_be purify
As in 12:30 and 13:9, purify means to perform a ceremony to make a person or a place ceremonially clean, to express the hope that it will be acceptable to God and useful for his purposes. Alternate translation: “I told the Levites to hold a ceremony to make themselves clean and acceptable to God”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וּבָאִים֙ שֹׁמְרִ֣ים הַשְּׁעָרִ֔ים לְקַדֵּ֖שׁ אֶת־י֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת
and,come guard the,gates in_order_to,keep_~_holy DOM day the,sabbath
As in 3:1 and 12:47, consecrate means to set something apart for a special purpose. Nehemiah was telling the Levites that they should guard the gates in order to prevent people from bringing goods for sale into the city on the Sabbath day. That way, they would ensure that the Sabbath continued to be a day that was set apart for the special purpose of rest and worship, and it would not be treated like an ordinary day. Alternate translation: “and I told them that they should then guard the gates of the city so that no one would bring in goods to sell on the Sabbath as if it were an ordinary day”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
גַּם־זֹאת֙ זָכְרָה־לִּ֣י אֱלֹהַ֔י
also/yet this(f) remember, to/for=me God,my
In this context, remember means to think about someone and consider what action you can take on their behalf. Nehemiah is not suggesting that God has forgotten about him. Alternate translation: “Please bless me, O God, for doing this as well”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / aside
גַּם־זֹאת֙ זָכְרָה־לִּ֣י אֱלֹהַ֔י
also/yet this(f) remember, to/for=me God,my
As in 4:4, Nehemiah stops addressing the audience of his story and speaks directly to God. You could indicate this by putting this verse in quotation marks. Review the note at 4:4 about asides like this if that would be helpful.
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
וְח֥וּסָה עָלַ֖י כְּרֹ֥ב חַסְדֶּֽךָ
and,spare, on,me according_to,greatness steadfast_love,your
The abstract noun greatness expresses the vast extent to which God possesses the quality of covenant faithfulness. As in 1:5, God having this quality means that he is inwardly disposed to keep all of his promises, and so he always does that faithfully. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate the idea behind this abstract noun with an adjective such as “great.” Alternate translation: “and have mercy on me, because your faithfulness to those who belong to you is so great”
