OET (OET-LV)And_because/when who am_I and_who people_of_my (cmp) we_will_retain strength to_give_generously as_as_this if/because from_you the_everything and_from_hand_of_your we_have_given to/for_you(fs).

OET (OET-RV)But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be in a position to be able to donate freely like this? Yes, everything comes from you, and we’ve simply given back from what you gave to us,

uW Translation Notes:

Connecting Statement:

Connecting Statement:

David continues his prayer of praise to Yahweh.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly these things?

(Some words not found in UHB: and=because/when who? I and,who people_of,my that/for/because/then/when retain ability to,give_~_generously as_~_as,this that/for/because/then/when from,you the,everything and,from,hand_of,your given to/for=you(fs) )

David uses this rhetorical question to express that he and his people deserve no praise for giving anything to God. Alternate translation: “My people and I should definitely offer these things to you willingly!”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

29:10-19 David’s prayer of praise concluded his addresses at Solomon’s coronation. The prayer extols God’s power and the glory of his kingdom, and it serves to dedicate the offerings given for building the Temple. The prayer is composed of three parts: the doxology (29:10b-13), the presentation and dedication of the offerings (29:14-17), and the petition (29:18-19).
