25:18 OSHB note: We agree with both BHS 1997 and BHQ on an unexpected reading.

OET (OET-RV)They met you on the road, then attacked you from behindgetting the stragglers who were weak and exhausted. They had no fear of God.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet

עָיֵ֣ף וְיָגֵ֑עַ

weary and,weary

The terms faint and weary mean similar things. Moses is using the two terms together for emphasis. If it would be clearer for your readers, you could express the emphasis with a single phrase. Alternate translation: [were completely exhausted]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וְלֹ֥א יָרֵ֖א אֱלֹהִֽים

and=not fearing ʼElohīm

Moses is using did not fear God as a common expression of his culture to mean “showed no respect for what God required.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and he had no moral principles] or [and he was willing to do terrible things because he did not respect God]
