uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

שָׁמוֹר֙

observe

The implication is that the Israelites must keep “the month of Aviv” by celebrating the Festival of the Passover during that month. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [Celebrate]

Note 2 topic: translate-hebrewmonths

אֶת־חֹ֣דֶשׁ הָאָבִ֔יב

DOM month_of the,abib

Aviv is the first month of the Hebrew calendar and includes parts of March and April on western calendars. You could convert the Hebrew day and month into an approximate date on the calendar that your culture uses. However, the Jews used a lunar calendar, so if you use a solar calendar, the date will be different every year and the translation will not be entirely accurate. So you may just want to give the name of the month on the Hebrew calendar, and say approximately what time of year that is on your calendar in a footnote.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ

and,celebrate

Here, make means “celebrate” or “observe.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and you shall celebrate]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

כִּ֞י בְּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽאָבִ֗יב הוֹצִ֨יאֲךָ֜ יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם לָֽיְלָה

that/for/because/then/when in/on/at/with,month_of the,abib brought_~_out,you YHWH God_of,your from=Miʦrayim/(Egypt) night

You could add a footnote to show that this refers to the events described in [Exodus 12](Exo/12/01.md).

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / go

הוֹצִ֨יאֲךָ֜

brought_~_out,you

In a context such as this, your language might say “took” instead of brought. Alternate translation: [took you out]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

16:1-8 The Passover (Hebrew pesakh) was the festival marking Israel’s deliverance from the tenth plague and from bondage in Egypt (see Exod 11–12; Lev 23:5-8).
• The Exodus was such a significant event in Israel’s history that the month of Abib, when the Exodus took place, became the beginning of Israel’s annual calendar (see Exod 12:2).
