OET (OET-LV)If/because he[fn] to_ends the_earth/land he_looks under all the_heavens he_sees.

28:24 Note: We read one or more accents in L differently than BHS. Often this notation indicates a typographical error in BHS.

OET (OET-RV)because he can see right around the earth,
⇔ and he notices everything under the sky.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-words-phrases

כִּי

that/for/because/then/when

Job is using the word For to introduce the reason why he said in the preceding verse that God knew where to find wisdom. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could indicate this in your translation. Alternate translation: “God knows where to find wisdom because”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / merism

ה֭וּא לִקְצוֹת־הָאָ֣רֶץ יַבִּ֑יט תַּ֖חַת כָּל־הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם יִרְאֶֽה

he/it to,ends the=earth/land looks below/instead_of all/each/any/every the=heavens sees

Job is using the two main components of creation, earth and the heavens, to mean the entire creation. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: “he can see everything in the entire creation”

Note 3 topic: writing-pronouns

ה֭וּא & יַבִּ֑יט

he/it & looks

For emphasis, Job is stating the pronoun he, whose meaning is already present in the verb translated looks. If your language can state implied pronouns explicitly for emphasis, you may want to use that construction here in your translation. Other languages may have other ways of bringing out this emphasis. Alternate translation: “he is the one who looks”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

28:1-28 This section is a self-contained speech. No speaker is listed, so it could be a continuation of the preceding words. However, some consider this a poetic interlude by the author of Job that sums up the argument to this point, emphasizes the failure of human wisdom, and lays the foundation for the Lord’s speeches.
