OET (OET-LV) And_ all_of _they_went_up the_people after_him and_the_people were_playing_the_flute with_flutes and_they_were_joyful joy great and_it_was_split_open the_earth/land by_sound_of_their.
OET (OET-RV) Then all the people followed him back uphill to the city, and the people were playing flutes and were so exuberant in their celebrations that the ground shook with the noise.
Note 1 topic: writing-poetry
וְהָעָם֙ מְחַלְּלִ֣ים בַּחֲלִלִ֔ים וּשְׂמֵחִ֖ים שִׂמְחָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֑ה
and,the,people (Some words not found in UHB: and,they_went_up all the,people after,him and,the,people playing with,flutes and,[they_were]_joyful joy great and,it_was_split_open the=earth/land by,sound_of,their )
The author is using two constructions in which a verb and its object come from the same root. You may be able to use the same constructions in your language to express the meaning here. Alternatively, your language may have another way of saying these things. Alternate translation: [And the people were making music on pipes and rejoicing very greatly]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / hyperbole
וַתִּבָּקַ֥ע הָאָ֖רֶץ בְּקוֹלָֽם
(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_went_up all the,people after,him and,the,people playing with,flutes and,[they_were]_joyful joy great and,it_was_split_open the=earth/land by,sound_of,their )
The author is making an overstatement for emphasis. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different way to express the emphasis. Alternate translation: [And they made a very loud sound, such as there is during an earthquake]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וַתִּבָּקַ֥ע הָאָ֖רֶץ בְּקוֹלָֽם
(Some words not found in UHB: and,they_went_up all the,people after,him and,the,people playing with,flutes and,[they_were]_joyful joy great and,it_was_split_open the=earth/land by,sound_of,their )
The expression was split is a passive verbal form. If you decide to represent the author’s actual overstatement in your translation, if your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [And the sound they made split the earth]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
