OET (OET-RV) Then Natan asked Shelomoh’s mother Batsheva, “Haven’t you heard that Haggit’s son Adoniyyah has made himself king, and our master David doesn’t even realise?
Note 1 topic: writing-quotations
לֵאמֹ֔ר
to=say
Consider natural ways of introducing direct quotations in your language. Alternate translation: “and he asked”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
הֲל֣וֹא שָׁמַ֔עַתְּ כִּ֥י מָלַ֖ךְ אֲדֹנִיָּ֣הוּ בֶן־חַגִּ֑ית וַאֲדֹנֵ֥ינוּ דָוִ֖ד לֹ֥א יָדָֽע
am=not heard that/for/because/then/when become_king ʼAdoniy\sup_yāh son_of Ḩaggit and,lord,our Dāvid not know
Nathan is using the question form to inform Bathsheba of something. If you would not use the question form for this purpose in your language, you could translate this as a statement or an exclamation. Alternate translation: “I tell you that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and our master David does not know.” or “Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and our master David does not know!”
Note 3 topic: translate-names
חַגִּ֑ית
Ḩaggit
The word Haggith is the name of a woman. She was one of David’s wives.
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
מָלַ֖ךְ
become_king
Here Nathan implies that Adonijah is trying to reign. Nathan believes that David is still the real king. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “is attempting to reign” or “wants to make himself king”
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / exclusive
וַאֲדֹנֵ֥ינוּ
and,lord,our
By our, Nathan means himself, Bathsheba, and the rest of the Israelites, so use the inclusive form of that word in your translation if your language marks that distinction.
1:11-14 Bathsheba was Solomon’s mother and David’s favored wife. Their affair led to the death of Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah the Hittite (see 2 Sam 11:1-27).
• Nathan, the prophet who revealed God’s covenant with David (2 Sam 7:1-17) and announced God’s love for Solomon at his birth (2 Sam 12:24-25), confirmed God’s selection of Solomon to succeed David as king (see 1 Chr 28:4-7). Although Nathan had sharply rebuked David for his affair with Bathsheba and his murder of Uriah (2 Sam 12:1-15), the king respected the prophet.
• Adonijah certainly observed Nathan’s close association with Bathsheba and Solomon. All three could expect to be killed if Adonijah’s plot to seize the throne succeeded (see 1 Kgs 15:29; 16:11).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
