OET (OET-RV)When Eliyah arrived, Ahav asked him, “Ah, my enemy. Have you found me?”
¶ Yes, I’ve found you,” Eliyah replied. “It seems you’ve sold your soul by doing what Yahweh’s finds to be evil.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

Have you found me, my enemy?

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAḩʼāⱱ to/towards ʼĒliyyāh have,you,found_me? my_enemy_of,my and=he/it_said found because you,have_sold_yourself for=doing the,evil in/on=both_eyes_of YHWH )

Ahab uses this question to express anger toward Elijah. That Elijah “found” Ahab likely refers to Elijah discovering Ahab’s actions, not to finding his physical location. Alternate translation: “You have found me, my enemy!” or “You have discovered what I have done, my enemy!” (See also: figs-explicit)

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

you have sold yourself to do what is evil

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAḩʼāⱱ to/towards ʼĒliyyāh have,you,found_me? my_enemy_of,my and=he/it_said found because you,have_sold_yourself for=doing the,evil in/on=both_eyes_of YHWH )

A person being committed to doing what is evil is spoken of as if that person had sold himself to evil. Alternate translation: “you have dedicated yourself to doing what is evil”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

what is evil in the sight of Yahweh

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said ʼAḩʼāⱱ to/towards ʼĒliyyāh have,you,found_me? my_enemy_of,my and=he/it_said found because you,have_sold_yourself for=doing the,evil in/on=both_eyes_of YHWH )

The phrase, “in the sight of” refers to someone’s opinion. See how you translated this in [1 Kings 11:6](../11/06.md). Alternate translation: “what Yahweh considers to be evil”
