OET (OET-LV)And_he/it_made the_evil in/on_both_eyes_of YHWH not he_turned_aside from_sins of_Yārāⱱəˊām the_son of_Neⱱaţ which he_caused_to_sin DOM Yisrāʼēl/(Israel).

OET (OET-RV)He did what Yahweh had said was evil—he didn’t avoid the kinds of behaviour that had been done by Nebat’s son Yarave’am who had caused Israel to sin.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) what was evil in the sight of Yahweh

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_made the,evil in/on=both_eyes_of YHWH not turn_away from,sins Yārāⱱəˊām/(Jeroboam) son_of Neⱱaţ which/who sin DOM Yisrael )

The sight of Yahweh represents Yahweh’s judgment. See how you translated this in 2 Kings 3:2. Alternate translation: “what was evil in Yahweh’s judgment” or “what Yahweh considers to be evil”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

(Occurrence 0) He did not leave behind the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_made the,evil in/on=both_eyes_of YHWH not turn_away from,sins Yārāⱱəˊām/(Jeroboam) son_of Neⱱaţ which/who sin DOM Yisrael )

Leaving behind sins represents refusing to do those sins. Alternate translation: “Pekahiah did not refuse to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat” or “He sinned as Jeroboam son of Nebat had sinned”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) he had caused Israel to sin

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_made the,evil in/on=both_eyes_of YHWH not turn_away from,sins Yārāⱱəˊām/(Jeroboam) son_of Neⱱaţ which/who sin DOM Yisrael )

Here the word “Israel” represents the people of the kingdom of Israel.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

15:23-25 Menahem’s son Pekahiah reigned only two years before Pekah conspired to assassinate him. Pekahiah continued the sins associated with the religious policies initiated by Jeroboam I (1 Kgs 12:26-33). Pekah, an army commander, had apparently been a rival for the throne for some time.
