OET (OET-LV) He he_arose and_he_struck_down among_Fəlishtiy until if/because it_was_weary his/its_hand and_it_cleaved his/its_hand to the_drought//sword/knife and_ YHWH _he/it_made a_victory great in_the_day (the)_that and_the_people they_returned after_him only to_strip.
OET (OET-RV) but Eleazar moved forward and attacked the Philistines until his arm became weak, and his hand cramped around his sword. Yahweh achieved a great victory that day, and the other warriors only returned afterwards to plunder the dead.
Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns
ה֣וּא קָם֩
he/it stood
See how you translated the similar expression “you, you know” in [17:20](../17/20.md). Alternate translation: [for his part, he arose]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
ה֣וּא קָם֩ וַיַּ֨ךְ
he/it stood (Some words not found in UHB: he/it stood and,he_struck_down among,Philistines until that/for/because/then/when grew_tired his/its=hand and,it_cleaved his/its=hand to/towards the=drought//sword/knife and=he/it_made YHWH victory great in_the=day (the)=that and,the,people returned after,him only to,strip )
See how you translated the similar expression in [2:14](../02/14.md). Alternate translation: [he himself took action and slew]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וַיַּ֨ךְ בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֜ים
(Some words not found in UHB: he/it stood and,he_struck_down among,Philistines until that/for/because/then/when grew_tired his/its=hand and,it_cleaved his/its=hand to/towards the=drought//sword/knife and=he/it_made YHWH victory great in_the=day (the)=that and,the,people returned after,him only to,strip )
By struck the Philistines, the author means that Eleazar killed Philistine soldiers. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. See the discussion of the term “struck” in the Introduction to 2 Samuel. Alternate translation: [and killed Philistine soldiers]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
יָגְעָ֣ה יָד֗וֹ
grew_tired his/its=hand
The author seems to be using he word hand in its first instance to represent the power of a person. (In the second instance, it refers to Eleazar’s actual hand.) If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [he had used all of his strength]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
וַיַּ֧עַשׂ יְהוָ֛ה תְּשׁוּעָ֥ה גְדוֹלָ֖ה
(Some words not found in UHB: he/it stood and,he_struck_down among,Philistines until that/for/because/then/when grew_tired his/its=hand and,it_cleaved his/its=hand to/towards the=drought//sword/knife and=he/it_made YHWH victory great in_the=day (the)=that and,the,people returned after,him only to,strip )
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of salvation, you could express the same idea in another way, here and in [verse 12](../23/12.md). Alternate translation: [And Yahweh powerfully saved the Israelites]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
