וַ⁠יִּתְאַוֶּ֥ה דָוִ֖ד

Since what David says in the rest of the verse indicates what he desired, you do not need to explain that here at the beginning of the verse by saying something such as, “And David desired to have something to drink.”

David is using the question form to express his strong desire for water from the well. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [I wish that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is at the gate!]

מַ֔יִם

The term for water is always plural in Hebrew. Different languages may need to use a singular form in certain contexts, as the ULT does here and elsewhere. If your language would use a plural form in these contexts, it would be appropriate to do that in your translation.
