In this section of the book, the author continues to tell what the kings were like who ruled over the two kingdoms, Israel and Judah, into which David’s kingdom split. In this chapter, he tells how Yahweh protected Joash, the infant son of King Ahaziah, when Ahaziah’s mother Athaliah tried to kill all of the male heirs to the throne of Judah so that she could rule the kingdom herself. The priests sheltered Joash in the temple until he was seven years old, and then they proclaimed him as king. The people of Judah killed Athaliah and destroyed the worship of Baal that she had promoted.
