OET (OET-LV)And in Yoppaʸ was a_certain apprentice/follower by_the_name Tabaʸtha, which being_interpreted is_being_called:
The_Gazelle/Dorkas.
She was full of_ good _works, and of_alms that she_was_doing.

OET (OET-RV) Then in Yoppa there was a believer named Tabitha (or Dorcas if translated) and she did a lot of good things as well as being generous to the poor.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-newevent

δέ

and

Luke uses the word translated Now to introduce a new event in the story. Use a word, phrase, or other method in your language that is natural for introducing a new event.

Note 2 topic: translate-names

Ταβειθά, ἣ διερμηνευομένη λέγεται, Δορκάς

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἐν Ἰόππῃ δέ τις ἦν μαθήτρια ὀνόματι Ταβιθά ἣ διερμηνευομένη λέγεται Δορκάς αὕτη ἦν πλήρης ἔργων ἀγαθῶν καὶ ἐλεημοσυνῶν ὧν ἐποίει)

Tabitha was this woman’s name in Aramaic, and Dorcas was her name Greek. (Both names mean “gazelle.” Note how, later in the story, Luke, writing in Greek, calls her Dorcas, while Peter, speaking in Aramaic, calls her Tabitha.) It may be helpful to begin a new sentence here. Alternate translation: “Her name in Aramaic was Tabitha, and her name in Greek was Dorcas”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

λέγεται

/is_being/_called

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “means”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

πλήρης ἔργων ἀγαθῶν

full ˱of˲_works good

Luke speaks of Dorcas as if she were a container that was full of good works and almsgivings. Alternate translation: Alternate translation: “doing many good things and giving to others generously”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

9:32-43 These verses describe Peter’s itinerant ministry in Judea, particularly along the seacoast. Exercising spiritual powers given to him by God, Peter performed wonderful works, including the healing of Aeneas and the raising of Dorcas. Jesus had promised such signs and wonders to the disciples (John 14:12).
• Typical of Luke’s writing, the healing of a man is matched by the healing of a woman (see Luke 13:10-17; 14:1-6). The people in the area were deeply moved by these miracles, and many were drawn into the faith (Acts 9:35, 42).
