The term cultic prostitute refers to someone who engaged in sexual acts as part of the worship of pagan gods. This practice was common in ancient Canaanite religion but was forbidden in Israel. If your readers would not be familiar with what a cultic prostitute is, you could use the name of a similar thing that your readers would recognize, or you could use a more general term.
