OET (OET-RV)The king of Aram responded, “Ok, I’ll write a letter to the king of Yisrael for you to take.”

go (Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said king ʼArām go go and,I_will_send writing to/towards king Yisrael and=he/it_went and=he/it_took in=his/its=hand ten talents_of silver and,six_of thousand gold and,ten sets_of clothing )

The king of Aram is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. (The brevity of this statement may indicate immediate agreement and urgency, and you may wish to show that in your translation.) Alternate translation: [All right, go from here in Aram right away and enter the land of Israel]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

וַיִּקַּ֨ח בְּיָד֜וֹ

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said king ʼArām go go and,I_will_send writing to/towards king Yisrael and=he/it_went and=he/it_took in=his/its=hand ten talents_of silver and,six_of thousand gold and,ten sets_of clothing )

The author does not mean that Naaman somehow held all of this silver and gold and clothing in his hand. He is using the term “hand” to indicate that Naaman was the agent who conveyed these things, probably commanding soldiers who carried them. (The author says in [5:9](../05/09.md) that he came with horses and chariots, and the author refers in [5:15](../05/15.md) to his “camp,” meaning his soldiers.) If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. If you have already translated the book of 2 Samuel, see how you translated the similar expression in [2 Samuel 8:10](../2sa/08/10.md). Alternate translation: [and he had his servants convey]

Note 3 topic: translate-bweight

עֶ֣שֶׂר כִּכְּרֵי־כֶ֗סֶף

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said king ʼArām go go and,I_will_send writing to/towards king Yisrael and=he/it_went and=he/it_took in=his/its=hand ten talents_of silver and,six_of thousand gold and,ten sets_of clothing )

These 10 kikkars of silver weighed over 330 kilograms or about 750 pounds. In your translation, you could use the ancient measurement and spell the word “kikkar” the way it sounds in your language. You could also use the metric measurement given in the UST or use the measurement that your language and culture customarily use. Alternatively, you could use the ancient measurement and put a modern measurement in parentheses in the text or in a footnote.

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

וְשֵׁ֤שֶׁת אֲלָפִים֙ זָהָ֔ב

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said king ʼArām go go and,I_will_send writing to/towards king Yisrael and=he/it_went and=he/it_took in=his/its=hand ten talents_of silver and,six_of thousand gold and,ten sets_of clothing )

The author is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [and 6,000 gold shekels]

Note 5 topic: translate-bweight

וְשֵׁ֤שֶׁת אֲלָפִים֙ זָהָ֔ב

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said king ʼArām go go and,I_will_send writing to/towards king Yisrael and=he/it_went and=he/it_took in=his/its=hand ten talents_of silver and,six_of thousand gold and,ten sets_of clothing )

These 6,000 shekels of gold would have weighed nearly 70 kilograms or about 150 pounds. In your translation, you could use the ancient measurement and spell the word “shekel” the way it sounds in your language. You could also use the metric measurement given in the UST or the measurement that your language and culture customarily use. Alternatively, you could use the ancient measurement and put a modern measurement in parentheses in the text or in a footnote.
