In this section some shepherds were taking care of their sheep in fields near Bethlehem. An angel came to them and told them that Christ the Savior had been born that night in Bethlehem. He told them that they would find the baby lying in a feeding box for animals. Then other angels came and praised God. After the angels left, the shepherds went to Bethlehem and found the baby, just as the angel had said they would.
It is good to translate this section before you decide on a heading for it. Some other possible headings for this section are:
Angels tell shepherds about Jesus’ birth and the shepherds visit him
The Shepherds and the Angels (GNT)
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph
So they hurried away, and, after searching, they found Mary and Joseph

and the baby, who was lying in a feeding box for animals.
with the baby. The baby was lying in a box from which animals eat their food.
So they hurried off: The Greek conjunction that the BSB translates as So introduces the result of the shepherds’ discussion. In some languages a conjunction may not be needed. For example:
They went quickly (GW)
Connect this verse to 2:15 in a natural way in your language.
they hurried off: The phrase they hurried off indicates that the shepherds went quickly. They did not hesitate to go and see the baby whom the angel had told them about. Some other ways to translate this are:
the shepherds went quickly (NCV)
they came in a hurry (NASB)
they came as fast as they could (JBP)
and found Mary and Joseph and the Baby: The shepherds found Mary and Joseph with the baby Jesus. The Greek verb that the BSB translates as found implies that the shepherds searched for Mary, Joseph, and the baby before finding them.
who was lying in the manger: The baby Jesus was lying in the manger, as the angel had told them (2:12). For a description of manger, see the note for 2:7c.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys

Note 2 topic: translate-unknown
κείμενον ἐν τῇ φάτνῃ
lying in the manger
See how you translated the term manger in [2:7](../02/07.md). Alternate translation: [lying in a box that holds hay for animals]
OET (OET-LV) And came having_hurried, and sought_out the both Maria/(Miryām) and the Yōsaʸf/(Yōşēf), and the baby, lying in the manger.
OET (OET-RV) So they hurried into town and asked around to find Maria and Yosef, and also the baby sleeping in the feeding trough.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
