OET (OET-LV)And answering he_said to_them:
Having_been_gone, report to_Yōannaʸs what things you_all_saw and you_all_heard:
blind are_receiving_sight, lame are_walking, lepers are_being_cleansed, and deaf are_hearing, dead are_being_raised:
poor are_being_good_message_preached.

OET (OET-RV)so then he answered them, “Go and tell Yohan everything that you’ve seen and heard here: how blind people can see again, lame people are walking now, people with leprosy are clear, some dead have come back to life, and the good message is being preached to the poor.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / hendiadys

ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί ἀποκριθείς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πορευθέντες ἀπαγγείλατε Ἰωάννῃ ἅ εἴδετε καί ἠκούσατε Τυφλοί ἀναβλέπουσιν χωλοί περιπατοῦσιν λεπροί καθαρίζονται καί κωφοί ἀκούουσιν νεκροί ἐγείρονται Πτωχοί εὐαγγελίζονται)

Together the words answering and said mean that after healing and delivering many people, Jesus responded to the question that John’s messengers had asked him. Alternate translation: [Jesus responded to the messengers whom John had sent]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / youdual

πορευθέντες & εἴδετε

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί ἀποκριθείς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πορευθέντες ἀπαγγείλατε Ἰωάννῃ ἅ εἴδετε καί ἠκούσατε Τυφλοί ἀναβλέπουσιν χωλοί περιπατοῦσιν λεπροί καθαρίζονται καί κωφοί ἀκούουσιν νεκροί ἐγείρονται Πτωχοί εὐαγγελίζονται)

Since Jesus is speaking to two men, you would be dual, if your language uses that form. Otherwise, the word would be plural.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

λεπροὶ καθαρίζονται & νεκροὶ ἐγείρονται, πτωχοὶ εὐαγγελίζονται

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί ἀποκριθείς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πορευθέντες ἀπαγγείλατε Ἰωάννῃ ἅ εἴδετε καί ἠκούσατε Τυφλοί ἀναβλέπουσιν χωλοί περιπατοῦσιν λεπροί καθαρίζονται καί κωφοί ἀκούουσιν νεκροί ἐγείρονται Πτωχοί εὐαγγελίζονται)

If it would be helpful in your language, you could express all of these things with active forms. Alternate translation: [people who had leprosy no longer have that disease … people who were dead are coming back to life, poor people are hearing the good news]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

λεπροὶ καθαρίζονται

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί ἀποκριθείς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πορευθέντες ἀπαγγείλατε Ἰωάννῃ ἅ εἴδετε καί ἠκούσατε Τυφλοί ἀναβλέπουσιν χωλοί περιπατοῦσιν λεπροί καθαρίζονται καί κωφοί ἀκούουσιν νεκροί ἐγείρονται Πτωχοί εὐαγγελίζονται)

As in [5:12](../05/12.md), since the lepers were unclean because of their leprosy, the implication is that Jesus healed them from the disease. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could state that explicitly. Alternate translation: [people who had leprosy no longer have that disease]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / nominaladj

κωφοὶ & νεκροὶ & πτωχοὶ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί ἀποκριθείς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πορευθέντες ἀπαγγείλατε Ἰωάννῃ ἅ εἴδετε καί ἠκούσατε Τυφλοί ἀναβλέπουσιν χωλοί περιπατοῦσιν λεπροί καθαρίζονται καί κωφοί ἀκούουσιν νεκροί ἐγείρονται Πτωχοί εὐαγγελίζονται)

Luke is using these adjectives as nouns. If your language does not use adjectives that way, you can translate them with noun phrases. Alternate translation: [people who were deaf … people who were dead … poor people]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

7:22 the blind see, the lame walk: A series of allusions to Isaiah (Isa 26:19; 29:18-19; 35:5-6; 61:1-2) defines God’s salvation as the restoration of fallen creation. Jesus did not come to overthrow Roman rule over Judea (so he omits “captives . . . will be freed” from his quotation of Isa 61:2); he came for the greater purpose of reversing the effects of sin and death.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.

Acknowledgements: The SR Greek text, lemmas, morphology, and VLT gloss are all thanks to the CNTR.
