OET (OET-LV)And having_come_out, she_said to_the mother of_her:
What may_I_request?
And she said:
The head of_Yōannaʸs the one immersing.

OET (OET-RV)So she went out and asked her mother what she should ask for. Her mother told her that she should ask for Yohan’s head.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / go

ἐξελθοῦσα

/having/_come_out

In a context such as this, your language might say “come” instead of gone. Alternate translation: “having come out”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / quotations

εἶπεν τῇ μητρὶ αὐτῆς, τί αἰτήσωμαι? ἡ δὲ εἶπεν, τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτίζοντος

˱she˲_said ˱to˲_the mother ˱of˲_her what ˱I˲_/may/_request she and said the head ˱of˲_John the_‹one› baptizing

It may be more natural in your language to have indirect quotations here. Alternate translation: “she asked her mother what she should ask. And her mother said that she should ask for the head of John the Baptist”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τῇ μητρὶ αὐτῆς

˱to˲_the mother ˱of˲_her

Here Mark implies that her mother is Herodias, Herod’s wife. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “to Herodias, her mother”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτίζοντος

the head ˱of˲_John the_‹one› baptizing

The mother is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You could supply these words from earlier in the sentence if it would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: “You should ask for the head of John the Baptist”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτίζοντος

the head ˱of˲_John the_‹one› baptizing

Here the mother is implying that the daughter should ask King Herod to behead John the Baptist and then present his severed head to her. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “The head of John Baptist after he has been beheaded” or “The head of John the Baptist severed from his body”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

6:14-29 The account of John the Baptist’s death, sandwiched between the sending out and the return of the disciples, continues the theme of Jesus’ authority and power (see 6:7, 14). John’s fate and the warning given to the disciples in their missionary charge (6:11) also foreshadowed Jesus’ death. The one greater even than John (1:8) would soon be handed over to religious and political leaders and put to death (8:31; 9:31; 10:33).
