OET (OET-LV) And_ a_man _he_will_lie DOM_her/it a_laying_of seed and_it_will_be_hidden from_the_eyes_of her/its_husband/man and_she_will_be_undiscovered and_she she_has_made_herself_unclean and_a_witness there_was_not on_her and_she not she_was_caught.
OET (OET-RV) when another man secretly has sex with her, then she becomes ‘unclean’, even though there’s no witness against her and she wasn’t caught.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism
וְשָׁכַ֨ב אִ֣ישׁ אֹתָהּ֮ שִׁכְבַת־זֶרַע֒
and,he_will_lie (a)_man DOM=her/it emission_of seed/offspring
Yahweh is referring to sexual relations in a polite way by using the phrase lies with her the lying of seed. Depending on what is helpful in your language, you could use a polite way of referring to this in your language, or you could state this plainly. Alternate translation: [has sexual relations with her] or [commits adultery with her]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
אִ֣ישׁ
(a)_man
By a man Yahweh means a man who is not the woman’s husband. This would have been clear to the original readers from the context. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [a man who is not her husband]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְנֶעְלַם֙ מֵעֵינֵ֣י אִישָׁ֔הּ
and,it_will_be_hidden from,the_eyes_of her/its=husband/man
The expression it is concealed from the eyes of her husband is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and the eyes of her husband do not see it]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism
וְנֶעְלַם֙ מֵעֵינֵ֣י אִישָׁ֔הּ וְנִסְתְּרָ֖ה
and,it_will_be_hidden from,the_eyes_of her/its=husband/man and,she_will_be_undiscovered
These two phrases it is concealed from the eyes of her husband and it is hidden mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could combine them and express the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
מֵעֵינֵ֣י אִישָׁ֔הּ
from,the_eyes_of her/its=husband/man
Here, from the eyes of her husband represents her husband’s knowledge or awareness. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [from her husband]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְנִסְתְּרָ֖ה
and,she_will_be_undiscovered
The expression it is hidden is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and she hides it]
Note 7 topic: writing-pronouns
וְהִ֣יא נִטְמָ֑אָה & וְהִ֖וא לֹ֥א נִתְפָּֽשָׂה
and=she defiled & and,she not caught
Yahweh is stating the pronoun she separately, even though the verbs translated as she is made unclean and she has … been caught already include this meaning. He is doing that to switch from speaking about the husband to speaking about the wife. If a speaker of your language would use an explicit pronoun for the same purpose, you may want to use that construction in your translation. If not, your language may have other ways of showing that emphasis. Alternate translation: [and as for her, she is made unclean … and as for her, she has not been caught]
Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְהִ֣יא נִטְמָ֑אָה
and=she defiled
The expression is made unclean is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and she, she has made herself unclean]
Note 9 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
וְהִ֖וא לֹ֥א נִתְפָּֽשָׂה
and,she not caught
The expression has not been caught is a passive verbal form. If your language would not use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and no one has caught her]
OET (OET-LV) And_ a_man _he_will_lie DOM_her/it a_laying_of seed and_it_will_be_hidden from_the_eyes_of her/its_husband/man and_she_will_be_undiscovered and_she she_has_made_herself_unclean and_a_witness there_was_not on_her and_she not she_was_caught.
OET (OET-RV) when another man secretly has sex with her, then she becomes ‘unclean’, even though there’s no witness against her and she wasn’t caught.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
