OET (OET-RV) David had complained to Yahweh when he saw the messenger afflicting the people, saying, “Listen, it’s me alone who sinned, and I myself who disobeyed you. But these innocent people—what have they done? Please, just punish only me and my relatives.”

See how you translated the similar expression in [1:2](../01/02.md). Alternate translation: [Listen]
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
אָנֹכִ֤י חָטָ֨אתִי֙ וְאָנֹכִ֣י הֶעֱוֵ֔יתִי
I sinned and,I done_wrong
David is stating the pronoun I separately in each of these instances, even though the verbs translated as I have sinned and I have committed iniquity already include this meaning. He is doing that acknowledge his personal responsibility for sinning by taking a census of the Israelite soldiers. If a speaker of your language would use an explicit pronoun for this same purpose, you may want to use that construction in your translation. If not, your language may have other ways of showing that the David is acknowledging his personal responsibility. It may not be necessary to represent the separately stated pronoun explicitly. Alternate translation: [I was the one who sinned, yes, I was the one who committed iniquity]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism
אָנֹכִ֤י חָטָ֨אתִי֙ וְאָנֹכִ֣י הֶעֱוֵ֔יתִי
I sinned and,I done_wrong
These two phrases mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could combine them and express the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [I myself have greatly sinned]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
וְאֵ֥לֶּה הַצֹּ֖אן מֶ֣ה עָשׂ֑וּ
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said Dāvid to/towards YHWH when,saw,he DOM the,angel [who,was]_striking_down (on),people and=he/it_said see/lo/see! I sinned and,I done_wrong and=these the,sheep what? they_had_acquired be now hand_of,your on,me and,on,the_house_of my_father_of,my )
David is using the question form to emphasize that the people of Israel were innocent and had done nothing wrong. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: [But these sheep have done nothing wrong!]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וְאֵ֥לֶּה הַצֹּ֖אן
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_said Dāvid to/towards YHWH when,saw,he DOM the,angel [who,was]_striking_down (on),people and=he/it_said see/lo/see! I sinned and,I done_wrong and=these the,sheep what? they_had_acquired be now hand_of,your on,me and,on,the_house_of my_father_of,my )
David is speaking of his subjects as if they were sheep. He means that they are innocent and defenseless, like sheep who depend on their shepherd to protect them. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [But these innocent people]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
תְּהִ֨י & יָדְךָ֛ בִּ֖י וּבְבֵ֥ית אָבִֽי

Here, hand represents God’s power to punish. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [use your power to punish me and the house of my father]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
