TSNTyndale Study Notes:

21:5 shave . . . trim: See study notes on 10:6; 19:27.
• cut their bodies: See study note on 19:28. Self-mutilation was a pagan custom. Just as defects of any kind precluded most animals as offerings (22:19-25), a defect similarly precluded a priest from officiating (see 21:17-23). For example, a eunuch could not serve as a priest (Deut 23:1) because he was not an adequate representative of the people. However, his priestly lineage was recognized as qualifying him to eat his priestly share (see Lev 21:22). On the other hand, uncleanness disqualified any priest from ministry and from eating the priest’s share as long as the condition persisted (22:2-8).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: writing-pronouns

לֹֽא־ יִקְרְח֤וּ קָרְחָה֙ בְּרֹאשָׁ֔ם וּפְאַ֥ת זְקָנָ֖ם לֹ֣א יְגַלֵּ֑חוּ וּבִ֨בְשָׂרָ֔ם לֹ֥א יִשְׂרְט֖וּ שָׂרָֽטֶת׃

not (Some words not found in UHB: not they_must_shave baldness in/on/at/with,heads,their and, edges beards, their not shave_off and,in/on/at/with,bodies,their not they_must_cut cut )

Here and in the next verse, the words they and their refer to the priests of Israel. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: “The priests of Israel shall not bald a bald patch on their heads, and the edges of their beard they shall not shave, and they shall not cut a cut in their flesh”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

לֹֽא־ יִקְרְח֤וּ קָרְחָה֙ בְּרֹאשָׁ֔ם וּפְאַ֥ת זְקָנָ֖ם לֹ֣א יְגַלֵּ֑חוּ

not (Some words not found in UHB: not they_must_shave baldness in/on/at/with,heads,their and, edges beards, their not shave_off and,in/on/at/with,bodies,their not they_must_cut cut )

These expressions describe the mourning rituals practiced by the people of the nations who surrounded Israel. Because of their role as priests to Yahweh, the priests of Israel were not to mourn like the priests of other nations. Doing so would associate Yahweh’s holy space with the idolatry of the other nations and profane it (as the next verse indicates). If it would be helpful in your language, consider supplying this information in a footnote or in the text of your translation, as the UST models.

Note 3 topic: writing-poetry

לֹֽא־ יִקְרְח֤וּ קָרְחָה֙ בְּרֹאשָׁ֔ם

not (Some words not found in UHB: not they_must_shave baldness in/on/at/with,heads,their and, edges beards, their not shave_off and,in/on/at/with,bodies,their not they_must_cut cut )

Words are being repeated for emphasis. Specifically, the noun bald patch comes from the same root as the verb bald. your language can repeat words in a similar way, consider doing so here. If not, consider using a generic expression. Alternate translation: “They shall not shave the crown of their heads”
