David is using one part of Saul, his eyes, to mean all of him in the act of witnessing what happened. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation. Contexts such as [Deuteronomy 7:16](../../deu/07/16.md), [Isaiah 13:18](../../isa/13/18.md), and [Ezekiel 7:4](../../ezk/07/04.md) suggest that the fuller form of this expression would be “my eye had compassion.” You can supply these words if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [but my eye had compassion on you]
