Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ
and=he/it_went
Moses is speaking of idol worship as if it were a path that one followed. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [and worshiped]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
צְבָ֥א הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם
host_of the=heavens
Here, the multitude of the heavens is a common expression that means “the stars in the sky.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have this meaning or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the celestial bodies in the sky]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
לֹא־צִוִּֽיתִי
not command
The implication is that Yahweh has commanded the Israelites not to worship any of the things listed in this verse. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [I have forbidden]
17:3 The forces of heaven are visible objects such as the sun, moon, and stars, as well as invisible beings such as angels. Worship of anyone or anything created by God is a clear violation of the second commandment (see 5:9).
OET (OET-LV) And_he/it_went and_serve gods other and_worshipped to/for_them and_to_the_sun or to_the_moon or to/from_all/each/any/every the_host_of the_heavens which not I_have_commanded.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
