The phrase translated as shut windows could refer to: (1) structures like windows, but which did not go all the way through the wall. These recesses or niches could be used for storing things. Alternate translation: [And carved out nooks … And nooks] (2) narrow or small. They may perhaps have been small on the inside and wide on the outside. Alternate translation: [And narrow windows … And windows] or [And windows that narrowed as they went inwards … And these windows] (3) windows with coverings over them. Alternate translation: [And shuttered windows … And windows]

Here Ezekiel is using the plural porches. See the chapter introduction for more information. He may be referring to: (1) one porch using an unusual form. He only directly refers to one porch for each gate. Alternate translation: [for the porch] (2) several porches (probably two), one for entrance and one for the exit of the gate. Alternate translation: [for its two porches]
