OET (OET-LV) Therefore I_said to_you_all that you_all_will_be_dying_off in the sins of_you_all, because/for if you_all_may_ not _believe that I am he, you_all_will_be_dying_off in the sins of_you_all.
OET (OET-RV) That’s why I said that you’ll be dying in your sins, because if you refuse to believe that I am God, you will indeed all be dying in your sins.”

˱you_all˲_˓will_be˒_dying_off in the sins ˱of˲_you_all & I ˱you_all˲_˓will_be˒_dying_off in the sins ˱of˲_you_all (Some words not found in SR-GNT: εἶπον Οὖν ὑμῖν ὅτι ἀποθανεῖσθε ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν ἐάν γάρ μή πιστεύσητε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμί ἀποθανεῖσθε ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν)
This phrase you will die in your sins is different from the similar statement in verse [21](../08/21.md) because sins is plural in this verse but singular in that verse. Therefore, make sure that you translate sins differently than how you translated “sin” in verse [21](../08/21.md).
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι
that that I (Some words not found in SR-GNT: εἶπον Οὖν ὑμῖν ὅτι ἀποθανεῖσθε ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν ἐάν γάρ μή πιστεύσητε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμί ἀποθανεῖσθε ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν)
This could mean: (1) Jesus is identifying himself as Yahweh, who identified himself to Moses as “I AM” in [Exodus 3:14](../exo/03/14.md). Alternate translation: [that I am the I AM] (2) Jesus expects the people to understand that he is referring to what he already has already said about himself in the previous verse: “that I am from above” See the discussion of this phrase in the General Notes for this chapter.
8:24 unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be: Jesus used God’s divine name (see 4:26; Exod 3:14), but the listeners missed the nuance (John 8:25).
• die in your sins: Jesus’ presence in the world, as the light penetrating the darkness, is the world’s only chance for salvation.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
