OET (OET-LV)And_let_down_them in/on/at/with_rope through the_window if/because house_of_her in/on/at/with_outer_side_of the_wall and_in/on/at/with_wall she [was]_dwelling.

OET (OET-RV)Then she put a rope out through the window to let them down to escape from the city, because her house where she lived was actually built into the side of the wall.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / events

וַתּוֹרִדֵ֥ם בַּחֶ֖בֶל בְּעַ֣ד הַֽחַלּ֑וֹן

and,let_~_down,them in/on/at/with,rope behind the,window

The author is describing an event before describing other events that preceded it. This actually occurred after Rahab spoke her final words to the spies in 2:21. In your translation, you may wish to relate these events in the order in which they happened and put the information in this verse after the quotation from Rahab in 2:21. Alternatively, you could indicate that what the author says here anticipates what happens a little later in the story. Alternate translation: “Then she agreed to lower them down by a rope through the window”

Note 2 topic: writing-background

כִּ֤י בֵיתָהּ֙ בְּקִ֣יר הַֽחוֹמָ֔ה וּבַֽחוֹמָ֖ה הִ֥יא יוֹשָֽׁבֶת

that/for/because/then/when house_of,her in/on/at/with,outer_side_of the,wall and,in/on/at/with,wall she/it lived

The author is providing background information to help readers understand what happens in the story. Because Rahab’s house was built into the city wall, she was able to let the spies out a window and lower them down to the ground outside the city wall. That way they were able to escape from the city even though the gates had been shut. In your translation, introduce this information in a way that would be natural in your own language and culture.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

2:15 Because Rahab’s house stood on the town wall, she could hide the men on the flat roof of her house (2:6) and let them out through the window, down the outer side of the wall.
