אֶת־בֵּ֣ית בָּמ֑וֹת
DOM (Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_made DOM house_of high_places and=he/it_made priests from,the_ends_of of,the_people which/who not they_were from=(the)_sons Levi )
In this verse, the word house is singular in form, but it refers to as a group to all of the “houses” or shrines that Jeroboam eventually built on high places or hilltops throughout his kingdom. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use the plural form of “house,” or you could express the meaning in another way. Alternate translation: [houses of high places] or [shrines for worship on high places]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / merism
מִקְצ֣וֹת הָעָ֔ם
from,the_ends_of of,the_people
The author is using the term extremities to mean everything between the outer limits of the Israelite population, that is, the entire population. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. If you have already translated the book of Judges, see how you translated the similar expression “from the borders” in [Judges 18:2](../jdg/18/02.md). Alternate translation: [men throughout the Israelite population]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
מִבְּנֵ֥י לֵוִֽי
(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_made DOM house_of high_places and=he/it_made priests from,the_ends_of of,the_people which/who not they_were from=(the)_sons Levi )
The author is speaking as if the descendants of Levi were actually his sons. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the descendants of Levi] or [the tribe of Levi]
OET (OET-LV) And_he/it_made DOM a_house_of high_places and_he/it_made priests from_the_ends_of the_people who not they_were from_(the)_sons of_Levi.
OET (OET-RV) He built temples on hills and appointed priests from various tribes—not just from the tribe of Levi.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
