uW Translation Notes:

אַתָּה־הוּא֙ יְהוָ֣ה הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר בָּחַ֨רְתָּ֙ בְּאַבְרָ֔ם

you(ms) he/it YHWH the=ʼElohīm which/who chose in/on/at/with,Abram

Alternate translation: “You, Yahweh, are the God who chose Abram”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

בָּחַ֨רְתָּ֙ בְּאַבְרָ֔ם

chose in/on/at/with,Abram

Abram was the ancestor of the Israelites. God chose to make him and his descendants a community that would model for the whole world the blessings of living according to his ways. The Levites mention this first because it is the very beginning of the Israelites’ history as God’s chosen people. They will describe the rest of this history, up to their present day, in the rest of their prayer. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could explain this. Alternate translation: “chose Abram to be the ancestor of your people”

Note 2 topic: translate-names

בְּאַבְרָ֔ם

in/on/at/with,Abram

This is the name of a man.

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וְהוֹצֵאת֖וֹ מֵא֣וּר כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים

and,brought_~_out,him from=Ur \add_>ones\add*_from_Kasdiy

Throughout their prayer, the Levites assume that the people listening will understand the significance of the details they mention for the Israelites’ history as God’s chosen people. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could give the reason why God brought Abram out of this city. Alternate translation: “He was living among the Chaldean people in the city of Ur, but you told him to leave there and go to a land that you would give to his descendants”

Note 4 topic: translate-names

מֵא֣וּר כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים

from=Ur \add_>ones\add*_from_Kasdiy

This is the name of a city and a people group. Alternate translation: “the city of Ur, where the Chaldean people lived”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

וְשַׂ֥מְתָּ שְּׁמ֖וֹ אַבְרָהָֽם

and,gave name,him ʼAⱱrāhām

Once again the Levites assume that their listeners will understand the significance of this detail. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could give the reason why God changed Abram’s name to Abraham. Alternate translation: “You changed his name to Abraham, ‘father of a multitude,’ because he would be like a father to many nations”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

9:5-37 This long prayer confesses the nation’s sins and praises God for his compassion throughout history (cp. Pss 105–106; 135–136). It prompted listeners to confess their own unfaithfulness and to call on God to be compassionate and forgive their sins.
