OET (OET-LV)And_she/it_gave to/for_them kingdoms and_peoples and_allotted_them as_corner and_took_possession DOM the_land_of Şīḩōn and_DOM the_land_of the_king_of Ḩeshbōn and_DOM the_land_of ˊŌg the_king_of the_Bāshān.

OET (OET-RV)Then you handed kingdoms and people groups over to them, and you let them settle in even the far corners of the regions. They took possession of the King Sihon’s Heshbon region, and King Og’s Bashan region.

uW Translation Notes:

וַתִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֤ם מַמְלָכוֹת֙ וַעֲמָמִ֔ים

and=she/it_gave to/for=them kingdoms and,peoples

If it would be helpful to your readers, you could say explicitly how Yahweh did this. Alternate translation: “You helped our ancestors to defeat stronger armies so that they could conquer kingdoms and the people who lived in them”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / doublet

וַתִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֤ם מַמְלָכוֹת֙ וַעֲמָמִ֔ים

and=she/it_gave to/for=them kingdoms and,peoples

Kingdoms and peoples mean similar things. They are two different ways of describing the groups that the Israelites defeated. The repetition emphasizes how remarkable it was for Yahweh to enable the Israelites to defeat these stronger opponents. If it would be helpful in your language, you could combine these words into a single expression. Alternate translation: “you enabled them to defeat the nations that were living there”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וַֽתַּחְלְקֵ֖ם לְפֵאָ֑ה

and,allotted,them as,corner

Here the land of Canaan is described as if it were a regular shape that had defined corners. Alternate translation: “you enabled them to possess every part of the land”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

אֶת־אֶ֣רֶץ סִיח֗וֹן וְאֶת־אֶ֨רֶץ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן

DOM earth/land Şīḩōn and=DOM earth/land king Ḩeshbōn

These two phrases mean the same thing. The repetition is used for clarity. You do not need to repeat both phrases in your translation if that would be confusing for your readers. Alternate translation: “the land over which King Sihon ruled from the city of Heshbon”

וְאֶת־אֶ֖רֶץ ע֥וֹג מֶֽלֶךְ־הַבָּשָֽׁן

and=DOM and=DOM earth/land ˊŌg king the,Bashan

Alternate translation: “Bashan, the land where King Og ruled”

Note 4 topic: translate-names

סִיח֗וֹן & ע֥וֹג

Şīḩōn & ˊŌg

These are the names of two kings.

Note 5 topic: translate-names

חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן & הַבָּשָֽׁן

Ḩeshbōn & the,Bashan

These are names of the places where these two kings ruled.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

9:5-37 This long prayer confesses the nation’s sins and praises God for his compassion throughout history (cp. Pss 105–106; 135–136). It prompted listeners to confess their own unfaithfulness and to call on God to be compassionate and forgive their sins.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
