OET (OET-LV) And they_cried_out with_a_voice loud saying:
Until when the master the holy and true, not you_are_judging and are_avenging the blood of_us, from the ones dwelling on the earth?
OET (OET-RV) These souls called out loudly, “You, master, always do what is right and decide what is right! So please condemn and punish the people on the earth who killed us.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion
until when ¬the Master ¬the holy and true not ˱you˲_/are/_judging and /are/_avenging the blood ˱of˲_us from the_‹ones› dwelling on the earth
The souls are using the question form for emphasis. If you would not use the question form for this purpose in your language, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: “Holy and true Ruler, we want you to judge and avenge our blood from the ones living on the earth without any further delay!”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / infostructure
οὐ κρίνεις καὶ ἐκδικεῖς τὸ αἷμα ἡμῶν, ἐκ τῶν κατοικούντων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
not ˱you˲_/are/_judging and /are/_avenging the blood ˱of˲_us from the_‹ones› dwelling on the earth
Since the souls actually want God to judge the ones living on the earth and avenge their blood, it may be more natural to present the phrases in that order . Alternate translation: “do you not judge the ones living on the earth and avenge our blood from them”
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
ἐκδικεῖς τὸ αἷμα ἡμῶν, ἐκ τῶν κατοικούντων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
/are/_avenging the blood ˱of˲_us from the_‹ones› dwelling on the earth
The souls are using the term blood by association to mean their deaths. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: “punish the ones living on the earth to avenge our deaths”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
τῶν κατοικούντων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
the_‹ones› dwelling on the earth
The souls are implicitly saying that they want God to judge and punish the ones living on the earth who killed them. See how you translated this expression in 3:10. Alternate translation: “the worldly people who killed us”
6:10 The martyrs shouted to the Sovereign Lord because they trusted in his power to redress their grievances.
• how long: Is God slow to act? Will justice be done? God does act decisively (see 6:12-14); his wrath (6:16-17) must be understood in terms of justice, fairness, and righteousness (see Exod 34:5-7; Neh 9:17; Pss 103:8; 145:8; Joel 2:13; Jon 4:2; Rom 2:6-11).
• avenge our blood: This cry for God’s justice follows the pattern of imprecatory (vengeance) psalms (see Pss 6:3; 74:10; 79:5; 80:4; 137:1-9). It also reflects the covenant curses of Deut 28:53-57; 32:35 (quoted in Rom 12:19).
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
