UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

אֵיבַ֥ת עוֹלָֽם

soldier/messengerility_of everlasting

Yahweh is using everlasting hostility as a common expression of the culture. This could mean: (1) “age-old hostility,” that is, hatred that the Philistines had held for a very long time or (2) “unending hostility,” that is, hatred that the Philistines intended never to give up. If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [hostility that had lasted for ages]
