TSNTyndale Study Notes:

29:3-16 The opening section of the oracle is a word of judgment against Pharaoh, who is addressed as a great sea monster. These creatures were a familiar part of ancient Near Eastern mythology as a manifestation of chaos that had to be tamed by the gods. Strikingly, these same sea monsters appear in demythologized form as part of God’s good creation (Gen 1:21). In this chapter, however, the mythical image blends with the image of Pharaoh as a great crocodile, resting comfortably in the streams that laced the delta of the Nile.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

(Occurrence 0) you will not be gathered nor lifted up

(Some words not found in UHB: and,fling,you the,desert,in DOM,you and=DOM all/each/any/every fish streams,your on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in face/surface_of the=field fall not gathered and=not gathered to,beasts the=earth/land and=to/for=bird the=heavens given,you for=food )

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. The implication is that they would die in the wilderness. Alternate translation: “no one will gather you or pick you up” or “no one will gather your bodies and bury you” (See also: figs-explicit)
