TSNTyndale Study Notes:

10:1-42 Chapter 10 continues the series of festival sermons (see study note on 5:1–10:42). Here, the setting is Hanukkah (the Festival of Dedication), the timing of which is crucial to understanding the story (see study note on 10:22).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι

the Jews

Here, the Jews refers to the Jewish leaders. See how you translated this term in 1:19.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ἵνα λιθάσωσιν αὐτόν

in_order_that ˱they˲_/may/_stone him

The Jews opposing Jesus are outraged at what Jesus said in the previous verse. Here, John implies that they wanted to kill him with stones because he had made himself equal to God. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could state this explicitly. Alternate translation: “so that they might stone him because he claimed to be equal with God”
