4:10-19 The father again lays two paths before his children, encouraging them to avoid evil with its horrible consequences and to embrace good with its promise of blessing.
In this lesson, the father compares two lifestyles by using the metaphor of two paths. After an opening admonition to listen to his teaching (4:10), he describes the benefits of walking in the way of wisdom (4:11–13). He then describes the way of evil (4:14–17), and concludes by contrasting the two paths (4:18–19). Since the figure of walking on a path is used throughout this lesson, it is recommended that you keep this figurative idea if possible.

In these two verses, the writer uses six parallel commands to emphasize that the reader should strictly avoid following the behavior of wicked people.
Notice the parallel parts that are similar in meaning:
14aDo not set foot on the path of the wicked
14bor walk in the way of evildoers.
In Hebrew, the parallel lines are arranged in the form of a chiasm. The command “do not enter” occurs at the end of 4:14a. The parallel command “do not walk” occurs at the beginning of 4:14b.
14a On the path of wicked-ones do not enter,
14band do not walk in the way of evil-ones.
You will need to decide if a chiasm helps to emphasize the need to obey these commands in your language.

Do not walk(sing) on the path that wicked people take.
Do not follow the example of people who do what is evil.
Do not set foot…or walk: These two parallel terms function together to imply a progression or intensification of meaning. The first command is literally “enter” in Hebrew. In this context, it means to start walking.
The second command, which the BSB translates as walk, means “go straight” or “advance.” Here it means “continue walking.” The NASB expresses this intensification of meaning as follows:
14aDo not enter the path of the wicked (NASB)
14bAnd do not proceed in the way of evil men. (NASB)
path…way: The references to path and way refer to a person’s manner of conduct. If it is not possible to keep the figures of “walking” or “path,” the meaning may be expressed without a figure of speech, as the CEV has done:
Don’t follow the bad example of cruel and evil people. (CEV)
wicked…evildoers: In some languages, there may not be separate terms for the synonyms wicked and evildoers. If that is true in your language, it is acceptable to use one term.
In some languages, it may be more natural to combine and/or reorder the parallel parts, as the CEV has done (see the preceding quote).
Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
Do not start(sing) walking on the path that wicked people follow.
or walk in the way of evildoers.
Do not keep(sing) walking on it either.

These two phrases mean similar things. Solomon is using repetition to emphasize the idea that the phrases express. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could combine the phrases and express the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: “Do not follow the ways of wicked, evil people”
