OET (OET-RV) Now please listen, my master the king, to your servant’s words. If it’s Yahweh who’s incited you against me, may he accept an offering, but if it’s people, may they be cursed in front of Yahweh because they’ve driven me away from enjoying Yahweh’s inheritance for me,[fn] saying, ‘Go away and serve other gods.’
26:19 This is possibly referring to David not being able to enjoy his piece of land, but we haven’t said that in the translation because it’s not certain. (It could be referring to having a peaceful or prosperous life, for example.)

BrTr And now let my lord the king hear the word of his servant. If God stirs thee up against me, let thine offering be acceptable: but if the sons of men, they are cursed before the Lord, for they have cast me out this day so that I should not be established in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, Go, serve other gods.
ULT And now, may my master the king please hear the words of his servant. If Yahweh has incited you against me, may he smell an offering. But if sons of man, may they be cursed to the face of Yahweh. For they have driven me out today from joining myself with the inheritance of Yahweh, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
UST Your majesty, please listen to me! If Yahweh is punishing me for sinning by causing you to want to harm me, I hope he will accept a guilt offering from me and forgive me. But if it is people who have caused you to be angry with me, then I hope Yahweh will make bad things happen to them! If people have convinced you to want to harm me, they are now forcing me to leave this land that Yahweh has given to the Israelites. By making me leave Israel, it is as if they are telling me to live somewhere else where the people worship different gods!
BSB Now please, may my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the LORD has stirred you up against me, then may He accept an offering. But if men have done it, may they be cursed in the presence of the LORD! For today they have driven me away from sharing in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
OEB Now therefore let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the Lord has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering, but if it was men, cursed be they before the Lord, for they have driven me out today, so that I have no part in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, “Go serve other gods.”
WEBBE Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it is so that the LORD has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before the LORD; for they have driven me out today that I shouldn’t cling to the LORD’s inheritance, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods!’
WMBB (Same as above)
NET So let my lord the king now listen to the words of his servant. If the Lord has incited you against me, may he take delight in an offering. But if men have instigated this, may they be cursed before the Lord! For they have driven me away this day from being united with the Lord’s inheritance, saying, ‘Go on, serve other gods!’
LSV And now, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant: if YHWH has moved you against me, let Him accept a present; but if [merely] the sons of men, they [are] cursed before YHWH, for today they have cast me out from being admitted into the inheritance of YHWH, saying, Go, serve other gods.
FBV “Please listen to me, my lord and king. If the Lord has made you angry with me, then may he be happy to accept an offering. But if it's men that have done it, may they be cursed before the Lord! For all this while they've been driving me away from living among God's chosen people, telling me, ‘Go away and worship other gods.’
T4T Your majesty, listen to me! If Yahweh has caused you to be angry with me, I should offer a sacrifice in order to appease him. 26:19 If the Lord has stirred you up against me: David was perplexed by Saul’s behavior and concerned with the possibility of unintentional sin on his part.
• a human scheme: Possibly a reference to Doeg (22:9-10).
• worship pagan gods: The sentiment parallels Ps 137:4. Anyone who was exiled from the holy land was unable to worship the Lord by participating in sacrifice at the central sanctuary.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֣י עַבְדּ֑וֹ
DOM words_of servant_of,his
David is using the term words by association to mean what he has to say. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [what his servant has to say]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person
אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֣י עַבְדּ֑וֹ
DOM words_of servant_of,his
David is speaking about himself in the third person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this in the first person. Alternate translation: [what I, his servant, have to say]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
יָרַ֣ח מִנְחָ֔ה
accept donation/offering
David is using the term smell by association to mean accept. In the Israelite sacrificial system, when Yahweh accepted an offering, he was understood to be pleased with its smell. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [may he accept an offering]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
וְאִ֣ם ׀ בְּנֵ֣י הָאָדָ֗ם
and=if sons_of the=humankind
David is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [But if sons of man have incited you against me]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / gendernotations
בְּנֵ֣י הָאָדָ֗ם
sons_of the=humankind
Here the masculine terms sons and man have a generic sense that includes both men and women. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could use language in your translation that is clearly inclusive of both men and women. Alternate translation: [human beings]

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [since they have driven me out today from joining myself with the inheritance of Yahweh, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods,’ may they be cursed to the face of Yahweh]
Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
אֲרוּרִ֥ים הֵם֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה
cursed they to=(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before YHWH
David is using the term face by association to mean Yahweh’s regard or attention. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [may they be cursed in Yahweh’s regard]
Note 8 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
אֲרוּרִ֥ים הֵם֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה
cursed they to=(the)_face_of/in_front_of/before YHWH
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [may Yahweh regard them as people whom he should curse] or [may Yahweh curse them]
Note 9 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
מֵהִסְתַּפֵּ֜חַ בְּנַחֲלַ֤ת יְהוָה֙
from,sharing in/on/at/with,inheritance_of YHWH
David is speaking as if the people of Israel were something that Yahweh had inherited as a lasting possession. He means that the Israelites belong to Yahweh perpetually. If it would be clearer in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. See how you translated the similar expression in [10:1](../10/01.md). Alternate translation: [from living together with his chosen people] or [from living among the other Israelites]
Note 10 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes
לֵאמֹ֔ר לֵ֥ךְ עֲבֹ֖ד אֱלֹהִ֥ים אֲחֵרִֽים
to=say go serve ʼElohīm other
If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. Alternate translation: [telling me to go and serve other gods]
Note 11 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
לֵ֥ךְ עֲבֹ֖ד אֱלֹהִ֥ים אֲחֵרִֽים
go serve ʼElohīm other
By Go, serve other gods, David means that his enemies are forcing him to live in another country, where the people worship other gods. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [Go and live in another country, where the people worship other gods]
