OET (OET-RV) Nevertheless, in Messiah, women are not independent from men, nor are men independent from women,
In this section Paul wrote about how men and women should dress during public worship. He wanted the women to cover their heads and the men to remain bare-headed. This was appropriate and proper and the custom of the other churches.

Paul taught that men are the glory of God, and women are the glory of men. But men and women are dependent on each other.

In the Lord: The phrase In the Lord refers to the people who believe in the Lord. What follows in 11:11a-b is what the Lord has planned for his new creation, the church.
Here are some other ways to translate this phrase:
in relationships among the Lord’s people (NLT)
in the Lord’s fellowship (REB)
as believers in the Lord (GW)
however: The Greek conjunction that the BSB translates as however introduces something that contrasts with what Paul said in 11:8–9.
woman is not independent of man: The Greek phrase that the BSB translates as woman is not independent of man is more literally “woman is not without man.” Women do not live in isolation, and they should not act in isolation, as if they were the only ones who matter. As Christians, neither men nor women should dress and act proudly and independently. They should dress and act in a way that shows concern for each other.
In some languages it may be more natural to use plural forms, as the NCV has done:
women are not independent of men (NCV)
nor is man independent of woman.
nor do men exist without women.
and men need women.
nor is man independent of woman: Translate this in a way that is parallel to the wording of 11:11a.
In some languages it may be more natural to combine 11a and 11b. For example:
woman is as essential to man as man to woman (REB)
men and women need each other (CEV)

Here Paul uses the spatial metaphor in the Lord to describe the union of believers with Christ. In this case, being in the Lord, or united to the Lord, identifies the situation in which men and women are not independent from each other. Alternate translation: [in their union with the Lord]

Paul is speaking of “men” and “women” in general, not of one particular man and woman. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express this form with a form that refers to people in general. Alternate translation: [every woman … men … every man … women]
11:3-16 Paul now addresses a woman’s use of a head covering. Paul argues that women publicly praying or prophesying should wear a veil as an element of dressing modestly and appropriately in public worship (cp. 1 Tim 2:9; 1 Pet 3:3). Apparently some in Corinth were rejecting head coverings based on freedom in Christ. Paul’s argument in favor of the custom is based on traditional social conventions, the Genesis account of creation, and the watchful eye of angels.
