OET (OET-LV) And_it_was the_man who not he_will_listen to messages_of_my which he_will_speak in/on/at/with_name_of_my I I_will_require from_with_him.
Note 1 topic: writing-newevent
וְהָיָ֗ה
and=it_was
Yahweh is using the word translated And it will happen to introduce a new topic. Use a word, phrase, or other method in your language that is natural for introducing a new event. Alternate translation: [Then]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun
הָאִישׁ֙ & מֵעִמּֽוֹ
the=man & from,with,him
The words man and him represent people in general, not one particular man. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a more natural expression. Alternate translation: [anyone … from that person]
Note 3 topic: writing-pronouns
יְדַבֵּ֖ר
speak
The pronoun he refers to the prophet from the previous verse. If this is not clear for your readers, you could repeat “prophet.” Alternate translation: [the prophet speaks]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
בִּשְׁמִ֑י
in/on/at/with,name_of,my
Here, name represents Yahweh’s power and authority. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression from your language or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [by my authority]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
אָנֹכִ֖י אֶדְרֹ֥שׁ מֵעִמּֽוֹ
I hold_accountable from,with,him
The implication is that Yahweh will require anyone who disobeys his prophet to give an account for their disobedience. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [I will hold him responsible]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis
אָנֹכִ֖י אֶדְרֹ֥שׁ מֵעִמּֽוֹ
I hold_accountable from,with,him
Yahweh is leaving out some of the words that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You could supply the implied words if it would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: [I will require accountability for disobedience from him]
Note 7 topic: figures-of-speech / rpronouns
אָנֹכִ֖י אֶדְרֹ֥שׁ
I hold_accountable
In the original, Yahweh adds the pronoun “I,” the meaning of which is already included in the verb translated as require. This adds emphasis to what he is saying. If your language uses explicit pronouns for emphasis, you may want to use that construction in your translation. Other languages may have other ways of bringing out this emphasis. The ULT does so by using the intensive pronoun myself. Alternate translation: [I will indeed require it]
18:19 Not to listen to the Lord’s spokesman is not to listen to the Lord.
OET (OET-LV) And_it_was the_man who not he_will_listen to messages_of_my which he_will_speak in/on/at/with_name_of_my I I_will_require from_with_him.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
